EXPLICATION
Works about fortification of ruins of "Tiranavor" church
after 1988 earthquake
The church "Tiranavor" is situated in the Maisyan village of the Shirak marz state. It was
built in the 7
th century. It is classified under crosswise one-altar, small centre-dome
type of churches with the sacristy in the north-east corner.
The church reached to the 19
th century with the destroyed drum and supplementary
south crosswise-wing. In the 19
th century on the regional level it was redecorated
(some changes were made as well) and covered by the wood roof. During the time it was burnt
because of the fire and in this condition it reached to nowadays.
As the church represents the great historical and architectural value, the 3-round project about
the church reconstruction was designed by the order of Armenian Association of Monuments
Protection.
During the I round the detailed researches and measurements were hold in 1981. On the
base of it the conservation project was offered that was include the re-construcyion of the church
according to its original, deleting the changes hold in the 19
th century.
During the II round - in 1984 the completion project with acroters and covers was done.
During the III round - in 1986 the on the base of 7
th century architectural type
and style, by means of studying saved churches which have similar construction, the similar
reconstruction of the church outlook was done.
According to the mentioned 3 rounds, due to the means of Armenian Association of Monuments
Protection the complete reconstruction was done, which was finished 1988. However, the lot fell upon the church to carry out the mortal earthquake of Spitak.
Due to ideal architectural composition of our ancestors and consientious work of reconstructors, the
church reeled but endured the test of nature.
It stayed stand in general, in spite of the serious damages in some parts. Nevertheless, for the
further safe existance, it needs some fortification works. Here is their brief
description:
in the frame of important work to build the reliable platforms and moulds, providing the
security both the workers and the church.
The carry out the ruin and removing operations in ancient parts and if it's necassary, to
renovate some stones.
to complete the places without stones with new ones.
to breach carefully the pits for close work for fortification of west crosswise-wingvault.
to carry out washing with water jet in all dangerous cracks and then batch injection.
mentioned operations with corresponding conditional signs are presented in 3 rounds of the
project in combination with some drafts and photos.
