General Information
 
 
The Scientific Library of the Armenian Agriculture Academy was founded in 1994 by an amalgamation of the libraries of Armenian Agriculture Institute (founded in 1931) and Yerevan Zooveterinary Institute (founded in 1930). The Library has a rich book stock of scientific, educational, reference and information literature by all branches of agriculture and related sciences, in Armenian, Russian and foreign languages, as well as belles-lettres.

The fund of the Scientific Library counts 550 000 units of literature.

The number of readers – 5675, including 4500 students. The Scientific Library occupies an area of 1600 sq m, has several technically equipped reading-halls, general 100-seat reading-room for students, 10-seat hall of scientific literature, 50-seat hall for reference, information and bibliography literature.

The Scientific Library has three departments:
  • Department for acquisition, scientific processing and organization of catalogues, providing a full acquisition of library fund by educational and scientific, reference and information literature, as well as a full access in the system of catalogues with the purpose of theoretically grounded and opeartive satisfaction of readers’ requirements.
  • Department of service to readers which provides with literature the readers subscribed in the Library, and by intralibrary subscribtion, as well as in reading-halls.
  • Deparment of reference literature and bibliography, realizing:
  • bibliographical information
  • organization of fresh and subject-matter literature exhibitions
  • organization of literature’s open review
  • readers’ notification about fresh literature
  • preparation of various bibliographical references
  • preparation of bibliography
  • In 2000, have been published biobibliographies of Agriculture Academy scientists: V. V. Dovlatian, M. A. Gulkhasian, P. A. Gandilian, P. K. Ayvazian, Sh. M. Grigorian, M. I. Grigorian, S. E. Margarian.
There is a computer service in the Library, equipped with modern communication means,which makes possible to get necessary information from the world scientific and reference fund.

The reference-bibliographical and computer services are used by the research workers and officials of the Academy, students of full-time and by correspondence tuition, post-graduate students, the magistrates, employees of many research agriculture institutes (for example, scientific centre of zooveterinary, research centre for plants protection, scientific centre of vegetables and technical cultures growing etc.).

According to the agreement between the International Monetary Fund and the Government of Armenia, concluded on March 12 of 1998 (N3035-AM) "The Program of Agriculture Improvement Assistance", a work has been carried-out from the April, 1999 to improve the situation in the Library.

Repair works have been carried out in the Library, a new furniture, computer and new literature were purchased, deficit educational literature has been republished, and new manuals have been published.

The Library has been subscribed to 40 Russian magazines in the area of Agriculture.

 
 
Brief essay of the scientific library of Armenian Agricultural Academy 2002
 
 
After the foundation of Armenian Agricultural Institute (1930), its library was founded in Sept. 1931 by teaching staff's donations and the grants given by the state. The library had two cases of books and 122 readers.

Yerevan Zootechnical-Veterinary Institute library was founded in 1929. Its fund made up 7200 units and the number of readers was 148.

Armenian Agricultural Academy was founded on the basis of two former Institutes (AAI, YZVI) in accordance with the decision of the government of the Republic of Armenia of the 7th of July 1994. The libraries were also merged. The head of the library is S. Zakaryan.

AAA library is the sole agricultural library which fund is used not only by the scientists and the students but also the specialists involved in agricultural sphere of activity.

Since 1999 by the agreement signed between Wold Bank and the government of RA there had been made reforms in particular the capital repairment of the library purchasing new furniture, computers and modem means of communication- Internet.

The fund of the library makes up on 01.06.2002 158362 titles, 548024 copies (the quantity of fund is 7596,3) including:

The number of the readers according to the united readers' cards is 5385 on 01.06.2002:

The total area of the library is 1600 sq.m. It's located on I, II, III, IV floors.
The quantity of the places of the reading hall is 180.
There are all necessary conditions for creative work in properly furnished reading hall. The total number of the readers is 4898.
A copy of book of the fund is given to reading hall.
Annual attendances of reading hall are 29.916

The library consists of three departments:
  1. Acquisition and processing (acquisition, books processing catalogues)
  2. Maintaining department ( I, II, III book-stacks, I, II, III, IV subscription subdivision, reading hall, scientific study, press hall, foreign languages hall)
  3. Reference and bibliography department (bibliography, inquiry-reference, reference press hall).

The library subscribes 9 titles of newspapers and journals of RA and 70 titles of journals of Russian Federation.

It had been formed the bibliographical lists dedicated to anniversary of renown scientists namely academicians A.Tamamshev, A. Rukhkyan, V.Dovlatyan, professors Kh. Mirimanyan, Z.Dilanyan, V.Voskanyan, P.Ghandilyan, M.Gyulkhasyan, P. Ayvazyan, M. Grigoryan, E. Hayrapetyan, M. Margaryan, Sh. Grigoryan.The lists of defended theses were published in Agricultural Institute.

The bibliographical lists of the scientific works(1934 -1980), the stuff of the science assembly (1934-1980), the scientific publications of specialists ( 1981-1985 and 1986-1990), Doctoral and Candidate of science thesises were composed and published in the library.

The lists of defended thesises (1984-1994, 1995-2001), annotated indication "Scientific achievements and progressive experience of the agricultural production" (2002) are ready for publication.

For information purposes there were new books and journals periodically published in official newspaper "Hask" of AAA.

The works are being done for getting connection to the united computer-based network of the libraries of RA,which shall facilitate using international information.
